<hi style=afpcap>Consolidated produced the B-24 Liberator, which along with the B-17 Fortess, were the two heavy bomber types in service with the Army Air Force in England. However not all were constructed as bombers, as the basic design offered very long range capability together with a capacious fuselage. These features enabled the B-24 to be developed as a transport aircraft with the designation C-87. The armament was deleted, with the glazed nose covered, while internally provision was made for 25 passenger seats. Some were further modified for the VIP role.</hi>
